Catholic Community Services offers a number of opportunities within our nonprofit social services agency to assist students in gaining work experience through professional internship and practicum positions.  Opportunities include:

Position: Public Relations Intern

Description
The Public Relations Intern reports to the Sr. Director of Development and Communications.  The department mission is to inspire the community to actively care about those served by Catholic Community Services.

Key responsibilities include:

Write and distribute news releases

Develop and maintain a contact list of news media

Research and write newsletter articles, brochures, web content

Archiving of publicity and production files, print & electronic

Proofreading

Assist with event coordination

Other public relations activities as agreed

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will: be a university senior or post graduate and will have completed extensive coursework in public relations, journalism, communications or related fields; possess excellent interpersonal skills; be detail-oriented and unusually well-organized; be proficient with Microsoft Office suite; and, write and speak grammatically and culturally correct English.   

Commitment 

Minimum of 10 hours per week average for six to twelve months.

This position is an unpaid learning opportunity.

Position: Community Counseling Center Intern

The CCC primarily serves lower income at-risk children, adolescents, and their families.   The program has a dynamic staff of six full-time therapists including MFT's, PC's and MSW's.  Therapeutic emphasis is strength-based, systemic, and client-determined.  Well-credentialed clinical supervision is provided.

CCC typically maintains three to four non-paid interns. Interns are expected to carry a caseload of eight to ten clients and are asked to commit to approximately 16 hours per week for at least a 9 month period.  Duties include: individual and family counseling, assessment and diagnosis, treatment planning, and case management.

Position: Independent Living Program Intern

The CCS Independent Living Program serves 125 youth, ages 14-21, who are currently or formerly in foster care in Marion or Yamhill County. ILP provides resource information and teaches youth the skills necessary for them to transition out of foster care and into their communities as adults.  Some services include life skill classes on topics such as:

- budgeting and money management, taxes, loans, credit management,
- housing-how to find it and pay for it, leases, rental agreements,
- education-how to apply to colleges and trade schools, financial aid, college and Job Corps tours
- employment-how to get it and maintain it, resume writing,
- supportive adults-how to find them and learn from them,
- health and hygiene,
- cooking and nutrition, exercise, personal safety
- social opportunities, personal identity
- and even how to select a quality used car.

Applications are accepted at any time. ILP is always open to accommodating volunteers who are interested in specific topics/activities such as arts and crafts, teaching youth to ride public transportation or teaching any classes that assist youth to be better prepared young adults.  We also accept intern and practicum students from colleges and universities who want to gain experience in serving at-risk youth.
